Dimitar Berbatov hits back at Old Trafford doubters

first_imgDimitar Berbatov has insisted he was unfairly labelled as a lazy player by pundits during his time with Manchester United. The Bulgarian striker, who left Old Trafford to join Fulham earlier this year, told The Sun he did all he could for Sir Alex Ferguson’s side.“I left Manchester United with my head held very high,” he said.“I gave 100 per cent and no one could doubt my performances, especially when you compare how many minutes I actually played.“I was the Premier League’s top goalscorer in 2010-11 and never wanted to be on the bench.“Perhaps I needed to play more but I always accepted the manager’s orders. I never considered myself to be a star — only a forward working for the team.” 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 Follow West London Sport on TwitterFind us on Facebooklast_img read more

Fungicide economics

first_imgShare Facebook Twitter Google + LinkedIn Pinterest Mother Nature has been too generous with moisture this year in most of the Corn Belt states. It has hurt some crops but has been conducive to the development for diseases like Northern Corn Leaf Blight and Gray Leaf Spot. Some of the early planted corn has already been sprayed with foliar fungicides. Late planted corn is starting to pollinate. I have seen a lot of these two diseases during the last two weeks especially on corn after corn ground and have been asked by some farmers if these fungicides applications are economical at the current prices. Some of the guidelines for economic thresholds are given below:• Corn needs to be protected from leaf diseases mostly during the grain-fill period. Depending on relative maturity of the hybrid, 45 to 55 days, are needed from pollination to physiological maturity or Black Layer.• We need to protect leaves above the ears which produce most of the grain yield. Foliar fungicides provide protection for only 3 to 4 weeks, depending on the fungicide and adjuvant used.• It costs $30 to $40 per acre to have fungicides applied. At current grain prices, you would need about 10 B/A yield increase to break even. So, make sure you apply fungicides after all silks are brown and only if disease starts to move on the ear-leaf and above.• Some farmers are thinking about adding CoRon to the fungicide as a source of supplemental Nitrogen if their fields showed N-deficiency symptoms due to too much rain and flooding.• Tests conducted by the university researchers indicate it is not cost effective to apply fungicides as a preventive measure without the presence of the diseases. However, some newer chemicals with systemic qualities may be available.• Realize that fungicides do not protect your crops from diseases caused by bacteria like Goss’ Wilt and viruses.• Hybrids with good tolerance to Northern Corn Leaf Blight and Gray Leaf Spot are available. Make sure to check with your Seed Consultant Rep before you order seed for next year.last_img read more

Finance Commission assures of action on Rajasthan’s demands

first_imgThe 15th Finance Commission has assured of action on the Rajasthan government’s demand for additional funds with the sympathetic consideration of factors such as difficult geography, heterogeneous society, limited resources and future needs. The commission completed its four-day visit to the State on Monday.Finance Commission Chairman N.K. Singh said the State government had worked in several fields, such as health, education, drinking water and renewable energy in the last eight months. He said though the State had its own set of problems, the commission was satisfied with the priority accorded to solar and renewable energy.“We will certainly have sympathy for Rajasthan and there will be no injustice,” Mr. Singh said. CM’s demandsChief Minister Ashok Gehlot has affirmed that the State government ensured effective financial management of its resources and complied with the Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management Act despite the huge debt pressure on the exchequer.Mr. Gehlot demanded additional funds for drinking and irrigation water, education and health facilities, development of roads, energy, information technology and tourism sectors. He also said the share of States in Central taxes should be increased from 42% to 50% in view of the mandatory expenditure on the subjects allocated to them and the amount spent on the services being provided. The Chief Minister said the Centre should compensate the States by 2024-25 for the deficit incurred by the latter for not increasing the revenue generated from GST. While seeking the States’ share in the cess and surcharge imposed by the Centre, Mr. Gehlot requested the Finance Commission to recommend that the States be given share in the Union government’s non-tax revenue as well.last_img read more

UCLA’s Tony Parker: Getting In Shape Is “Good For The Team And Good For The Ladies Off The Court”

first_imgAllie LaForce interviews Tony Parker.YouTube YouTubeVineBig UCLA forward Tony Parker has emerged as a difference maker during the Bruins’ surprise run to the Sweet 16, and his off-season training is a big reason. After averaging just 2.4 points per game as a freshman and 6.9 as a sophomore, Parker now averages 11.4 points as a junior, and showed off a refined offensive game in the post against UAB, when he dropped 28 points in the 92-75 win. Parker is also one of the funniest players on the team, by all accounts, and had a classic quote when asked about his off-season weight loss.Parker said he’s lost more than 20 pounds since his freshman season. “My nickname around the locker room and campus is big sexy,” Parker said. “So, keeping my hair being curled and my body in a nice manner—it’s good for the team and the basketball and it’s good for the ladies off the court.”“Big Sexy” will need another big game this weekend when he will battle down low with Gonzaga’s talented forward trio of Kyle Przemek Karnowski, Domantas Sabonis, and Kyle Wiltjer. Press Release: The Prime Minister of Jamaica, the Most Honourable Andrew Holness, MP on the Occasion of the Special Luncheon

first_imgREMARKS PREPARED FOR THE CHAIRMAN OF THE CARIBBEAN COMMUNITY, THE PRIME MINISTER OF JAMAICA, THE MOST HONOURABLE ANDREW HOLNESS, MPON THE OCCASION OF THE SPECIAL LUNCHEON HELD IN HONOUR OF HIS EXCELLENCY MR.  MIGUEL DIAZ CANEL-BERMUDEZ, PRESIDENT OF THE COUNCILS OF STATE AND MINISTERS OF THE REPUBLIC OF CUBAON THE MARGINS OF THE THIRTY-NINTH REGULAR MEETING OF THE CONFERENCE OF HEADS OF GOVERNMENT OF THE CARIBBEAN COMMUNITY (CARICOM)5TH JULY 2018MONTEGO BAY, JAMAICA Good Afternoon,Our collective presence at this Thirty-Ninth Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of CARICOM, reaffirms the spirit of unity and solidarity which binds us together as a region. It is in keeping with this spirit of one-ness that I extend a special welcome to His Excellency Mr.  Miguel Diaz Canel-Bermudez, President of the Councils of State and Ministers of the Republic of Cuba, in whose honour I am pleased to host this luncheon.Excellency,On behalf of my colleague Heads, I am pleased not only to welcome you to Jamaica,  but also to receive you into the region’s fraternity of leaders. We note that since your recent election and appointment to office, this will have been your first official engagement with all the Heads of State and Government of this Community. This is therefore a historic moment in our regional cooperation, and is cause for some celebration.Colleagues,As you are aware, CARICOM and the Republic of Cuba have enjoyed meaningful and mutually beneficial bonds of friendship, since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1972, built on mutual respect, shared interests, extensive bilateral and multilateral cooperation, and a common regional destiny.Since then, Cuba has consistently demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the development of a sustained technical and functional cooperation programme with CARICOM in several areas, allowing us to forge a dynamic and mutually beneficial bi-partisan partnership. This valued cooperation is one which covers a wide range of areas of strategic regional importance. These include support for the health sector through Nurse Training and the Eye Care Programme (Operation Miracle), culture, disaster management, security and human resource development –  to name but a few. Under Cuba’s programme of technical cooperation, over 1,500 Cuban nationals serve in all CARICOM countries. Approximately 1,300 of these persons work in the health sector. The remaining persons serve in the education, construction, sport and agricultural fields. In the critical area of education, the granting of scholarships by the Government of Cuba remains a significant feature of Cuba’s cooperation programme with the Community. To date, approximately 5,432 CARICOM nationals have graduated from Cuban tertiary institutions and over 800 CARICOM nationals are currently enrolled.I recall that in 2016, Cuba and Guyana established the Regional Training Centre in Guyana, for young people with disabilities. Jamaica and Cuba are also in the process of finalising plans for a Regional School of Arts, which is envisioned to be a primer “Pre- University level” regional school for the classic and performing arts. This facility will allow our students to transition more easily into undergraduate studies in the Arts.Cuba has also provided invaluable support to the region in the area of Disaster Risk Reduction and Management, despite also being vulnerable to the ravages of natural disasters themselves.Undoubtedly, Cuba’s involvement with the region has redounded positively not just for the region’s social, environmental and economic development, but has deepened and cemented the ties of friendship which binds us. For this reason, the Community has continued to be a strong advocate for Cuba’s full involvement in hemispheric affairs, and particularly for the elimination of the economic, commercial and financial embargo imposed against the country.Excellency,At the 6th CARICOM – Cuba Summit held in Antigua and Barbuda last December, Heads engaged in discussions on issues of economic concerns with Cuban senior officials, towards strengthening our trade and functional cooperation framework.Indeed, we have noted an increase in trade relations, and a growing interest among Caribbean entrepreneurs to develop business and commercial relations with Cuba. This,is testament to the potential for deepening our collaboration and mutual engagement with Cuba towards enhanced economic prosperity for all our peoples. The culmination of that meeting with the signature of the Declaration of St. Mary’s, reaffirms this shared commitment. In closing, allow me to reiterate, Excellency, on behalf of all my colleagues, a warm welcome to  this regional engagement process and best wishes for a prosperous term in office. We very much  look forward to working closely with you for the shared benefit of all our peoples. It is now my honour Excellency, to invite you to address the Community of Heads of State and Government of the Caribbean Community.last_img read more
