first_imgMen’s Soccer Team Remains Unbeaten in Road Matches Share Sept. 16, 2007Box ScoreSELMA, Ala. – In their fifth away match of the young season, the West Florida Men’s Soccer team won their seventh straight overall, with a 5-2 win at Concordia-Selma. The Argonauts faced the Hornets in a non-division match and dominated the contest at the Bloch Baseball Park, in Selma, Alabama, to improve to 7-1 for the season.In the beginning of the first half, both teams were playing tentative and trying to get to know their opponents game plan. At the twenty minute mark, the Hornets fouled an Argonauts player inside the box, resulting in a penalty kick. Senior forward Keith Savage was not successful with the penalty kick attempt; however, a few minutes later Savage scored on a rebound shot after sophomore midfielder Nikola Kljaic’s shot was deflected by the Hornets keeper.In the beginning of second half it seemed like the Argonauts would roll past the Hornets as Junior forward Jay Mainville shots was blocked, but as the Hornets defender tried to clear, he failed an UWF scored an own goal. However, the Hornets bounced right back, scoring two goals in the next five minutes to tie the match at 2-2.At the sixty minute mark, Junior midfielder Rafael Segal took an amazing shot, hitting both the right and top posts in the upper corner before it entered the goal, and gave the Argonaut’s the 3-2 lead.Head Coach Bill Elliott substituted most of the starters, playing with the “B” team. Every single player showed to have the skills and capacity to play in the starting position, as they controlled the action against the Hornets. At minute 65, Freshman midfielder Ben Woodland, assisted by Savage, scored a goal after a combination of nice passes.The fifth and last goal of the game came at around eighty-six minutes, when Freshman forward Curtis Brashear, assisted by Junior midfielder Matt Brooks, scored on the keeper’s breakaway to give the Argonauts the final goal of the 5-2 victory.West Florida will have twelve days until returning to action to face Gulf South Conference opponent, Ouchita Baptist, at the UWF Soccer Complex on Friday Sept 28 at 5:00 pm CT.
