The Spurs talisman will be crucial against Bayern on Tuesday. Jake Lambourne30 Sep 2019, 9:40 amTOTTENHAM have made Gareth Southgate their top managerial should Mauricio Pochettino leave the club, it has been claimed.Spurs have had a rocky start to the season with rumours of unrest in the camp and the North Londoners are said to view the Three Lions boss as the ideal replacement should the Argentine leave. And Spurs chiefs were even ready to make a move for Southgate, 49, at the end of last season amid doubts over Poch’s future, according to the Daily Express.Tottenham’s current boss admitted he could leave if the club had won last season’s Champions League final, claiming he might have “nothing left to achieve”.But of course Spurs came a cropper and lost 2-0 at the hands of Liverpool in Madrid.Pochettino continued to be linked with Real Madrid and Manchester United over the summer after last season’s success.Jake Lambourne30 Sep 2019, 9:09 amGRAPHIC WARNING: FORMER Tottenham and Barcelona star Giovani Dos Santos had his leg torn open in a horror injury this weekend. The Mexican ace, 30, saw a huge chunk hacked out of his leg and suffered a potential knee fracture after a disgusting tackle.Dos Santos is currently on the books of Club America after two injury-hit seasons at LA Galaxy – and was badly hurt in their clash against Guadalajara. As he lunged to win a 50-50 ball, Guadalajara’s Bresino stormed in and launched his studs into Dos Santos’ thigh. The former Spurs ace immediately signalled for help as blood poured from his gaping wound.Medical staff quickly moved to bandage up the horror gash and stem the bleeding. TOTTENHAM recovered from humiliation to beat Southampton 2-1 with ten man.But Mauricio Pochettino still has question marks over his future after accusing his squad of having ‘different agendas’.Follow all of the latest Tottenham news right here…Ian Tuckey1 Oct 2019, 7:43 pmTOBY ALDERWEIRELD claims Spurs were “lucky” on their way to their first ever Champions League final last season. But as Mauricio Pochettino’s spluttering side prepare to host Bayern Munich in Tuesday’s group clash, the Belgium centre-back insists Tottenham are now ready to stay in the Euro elite. The Standard report Alderweireld, 30, as saying: “We took some steps in the last few seasons. Before we were happy to just play these games, now we’re not happy with that – we want to get results. “Last season shows us that there’s a way to get into the [Champions League] final. “We don’t have to think too much about the future, about semi-finals or finals, just get through this group, because last season we were lucky, to be honest.” Ironically, though, Liverpool’s 2-0 win in that Euro final on June 1 was the first big stutter for Pochettino and his side – with more questions asked early this term. Ian Tuckey1 Oct 2019, 5:53 pmJAN VERTONGHEN denies Spurs have gone “stale” – but declined to commit himself to staying. The Belgium centre-back rebuffed claims of low morale amongst some players and frustration at boss Mauricio Pochettino’s training regime. Speaking ahead of Tuesday’s clash with Bayern Munich, the 32-year-old said: “We’ve improved every year. Last year we went to the Champions League final. “Some new players came in and that keeps it fresh. I don’t see that it’s stale at all. “I see plenty of joy in the dressing room. Everyone enjoys playing here.” Vertognhen’s contract runs out in the summer but he said: “I’d prefer not to go into that, but there is always movement there, of course. “It’s my eighth season and I’m feeling great. I’m very aware of my age. I feel fairly young. “It doesn’t distract me. I want to play as many games as possible. I’m very ambitious and I feel I’ve got a few good years left at the top level.”Jake Lambourne30 Sep 2019, 4:49 pmJake Lambourne30 Sep 2019, 4:15 pm📹 Tanguy Cam 🔛 #THFC ⚪️ #COYS— Tottenham Hotspur (@SpursOfficial) September 30, 2019Jake Lambourne30 Sep 2019, 3:42 pmTOBY ALDERWEIRELD has revealed what was said at half-time during Spurs’ 2-1 win against Southampton on Saturday. The Belgian centre-back said: ” We said at half time, ‘This is the moment to prove that we are a team’.“It had all the ingredients to lose the game and I think we were wonderful. “This is the most important win of the season.” Jake Lambourne30 Sep 2019, 3:04 pmEveryone needs a Sonny on a Monday… Right, @MoussaSissoko? 😅 #UCL ⚪️ #COYS— Tottenham Hotspur (@SpursOfficial) September 30, 2019Jake Lambourne30 Sep 2019, 2:30 pmSPURS midfielder Jan Vertonghen has spoken about his situation at Spurs with the player to become a free agent in the summer.Asked at a press conference about his contract ahead of Tottenham’s clash against Bayern Munich, he said: “I’d prefer not to go into that but there is always movement there of course.“It’s not a distraction. I’m very aware of my age. I feel fairly young. It doesn’t distract me. “I want to play as many games as possible. I’m very ambitious and I feel I’ve got a few good years left at the top level.“It’s my eighth season and I’m feeling great. Maybe the results didn’t come our way but they were tough away games and you always have to see how you bounce back from that.”Jake Lambourne30 Sep 2019, 1:48 pmMANCHESTER UNITED are reportedly ready to revive their interest in Spurs ace Toby Alderweireld in January. The Belgian international is a free agent in the summer and there are no signs that he will extend his stay in North London.According to Tuttosport, the Red Devils are considering making a move for the former Atletico Madrid man.Spurs are believed to be willing to cash in on him to avoid losing him on a free.Jake Lambourne30 Sep 2019, 1:02 pmFORMER England boss Sam Allardyce has downplayed rumours of Gareth Southgate replacing Mauricio Pochettino at Spurs.Speaking on talkSPORT, he said: “It depends on his own ambitions, on whether he thinks he’s got something to prove by coming to manage in the Premier League, because obviously his Middlesbrough days didn’t last very long or end too well because he got thrown in the deep end.“Obviously he’s learnt an awful lot from then to now. I think his partnership with [assistant] Steve Holland is extremely good and that relationship is excellent.“They may fancy a dabble back [in the Premier League], but it’s a big ask leaving England to go and manage in the Premier League.“At some point or other, it depends on the situation of the FA being willing to let him go, Gareth wanting to go, and how much the compensation would be and whether [Tottenham chairman] Daniel Levy is willing to pay it.“I can’t see him going before the Euros and I can’t see Mauricio going anywhere at the moment.”Jake Lambourne30 Sep 2019, 12:20 pm🔋 #UCL LOADING 🔋 ⬛️⬛️⬛️⬛️🔲🔲🔲#THFC ⚪️ #COYS— Tottenham Hotspur (@SpursOfficial) September 30, 2019Jake Lambourne30 Sep 2019, 11:42 amFORMER Spurs midfielder Jamie Redknapp has disagreed with Harry Kane’s comments that Tottenham’s poor start to the season is due to the distraction from the summer transfer window.Redknapp told the Daily Mail: “I don’t agree with Harry Kane’s assertion after the game that the squad have been distracted by the transfer window. “It’s hardly the first window they’ve been through.“I just think there are a lot of unsettled players at Tottenham at the moment. “Perhaps they feel uneasy about contract situations and players perhaps being moved on but there are a lot of players there that don’t look happy.”Jake Lambourne30 Sep 2019, 11:11 amJake Lambourne30 Sep 2019, 10:40 [email protected] brace: ✔️One-touch masterclass: ✔️@MoussaSissoko’s 1st goal: ✔️🗓️ #OnThisDay in 2017… #THFC ⚪️ #COYS— Tottenham Hotspur (@SpursOfficial) September 30, 2019Jake Lambourne30 Sep 2019, 10:10 amFORMER Tottenham and Barcelona star Giovani Dos Santos says he will come back stronger after he had his leg torn open in a horror injury over the weekend. The Mexican ace – currently on the books of Club America – saw a huge chunk hacked out of his leg and suffered a potential knee fracture after a disgusting tackle. As he lunged to win a 50-50 ball, Guadalajara’s Bresino stormed in and launched his studs into Dos Santos’ thigh. The former Spurs ace immediately signalled for help as blood poured from his gaping wound as medical staff quickly moved to bandage up the horror gash and stem the bleeding.Thankfully, Dos Santos has revealed everything went well at hospital.Alongside a picture of him giving the thumbs up, he wrote: “Thank you all for your messages and prayers! Everything went very well Thank God! I will come back soon and stronger.”center_img Adam Storer30 Sep 2019, 8:49 amTOTTENHAM face Bayern Munich in the Champions League this week – but are not entirely underdogs against the German champions. The Bavarians’ new winger Ivan Perisic believes Spurs are not to be underestimated, despite their inconsistent start to the campaign. The Croatian told The Athletic: “They are real players, real competitors, and when you don’t focus for 95 minutes, they will beat you.“It’ll be a good test for us. We have to leave everything out there to get something out of the game.“They have really good players in all positions and their coach is their best player.“Pochettino has created an unbelievable mentality. He has changed the whole club.“You see it on TV and especially on the pitch when you play them.”Etienne Fermie30 Sep 2019, 9:30 pmIN CASE YOU MISSED IT…MATT LE TISSIER believes that James Maddison would make the ‘perfect’ Christian Eriksen replacement at Tottenham. The 27-year-old is almost certain to leave Spurs in the next 12 months and Le Tissier believes that Maddison could help retain the Dane’s creativity in the Tottenham side. The Southampton legend told Sky Sports: “He [Maddison] is a player that would be on the radar of a team like Spurs, especially if they were to lose Christian Eriksen.“You look at James Maddison and he would be a pretty ideal replacement. I think this boy has got everything in his locker.“He has been quite unfortunate that he has not already been capped by England. I really do think that his performances at Leicester warranted him making his debut before he actually got in the squad.”Maddison scored a late winner against Spurs at the King Power Stadium last weekend.Etienne Fermie30 Sep 2019, 9:00 pmEX CELTIC striker John Hartson worries that it could upset the balance at his former side if they re-sign Victor Wanyama from Tottenham. The Daily Record claimed in the summer that the Hoops were interested in bringing the Kenyan back to Parkhead. But Hartson isn’t sure it’s such a good idea.He told Football Fan Cast: “He’s a very good midfielder but Celtic have got good midfield players. “They’ve got a collection at their disposal and they can only play four. Does it upset the balance if you bring in Wanyama all of a sudden?“There are a few clubs who will be interested in Wanyama. He’s big, he’s solid, he’s reliable, he’s a physical presence in both boxes.“He’s a very, very good player and that’s why he’s playing for one of the top four clubs.”The Kenyan has struggled for gametime at Spurs so far this season – with his only start coming in the disastrous Carabao Cup penalty shootout defeat to League Two Colchester.Etienne Fermie30 Sep 2019, 8:12 pmRIANNA DEAN’S textbook header that gave Tottenham Women the lead at the London Stadium. Etienne Fermie30 Sep 2019, 6:41 pmEX SPURS striker Darren Bent has claimed that Danny Rose is one of the best left-backs in the league – and that Ben Davies is very unlucky to be consistently left out.The Welshman finds himself behind Rose in the pecking order, having featured only four times this season.Bent told Football Insider: “He’s now relying on lack of form or injuries because Danny Rose is the best left-back, or one of the best left-backs in the Premier League. He’s unfortunate that he’s in that position.“He’s very, very good back up, Ben Davies, he’s never really done anything wrong at Spurs. When Danny Rose was going through confidence issues and injury issues, Davies stepped in and did really, really well.“When Danny Rose is fit he’s arguably the best left-back in the conversation and in the Premier League. “I think Ben Davies understands where he’s at, but at the same time he needs know there’s going to be an opportunity where he’s going to be called upon and he needs to be ready.” Etienne Fermie30 Sep 2019, 6:10 pmEX SPURS right-back Alan Hutton has tipped Tanguy Ndombele to become a ‘massive’ player for Tottenham. The Lilywhites shattered their transfer record to bring in the Frenchman from Lyon – and Hutton thinks it’ll be money well spent. He told Football Insider: “I think he’ll end up being a massive player for Tottenham.“He’s just arrived with a big price tag so it’s going to take time to settle in.“I think from what I have seen he is going to be a class act so he’s going to take time to settle in, which he has done, even though with his price tag you expect him to be excellent from day one, but it does take time to settle in as a player.“So I think we will start now to see the best of him.”Etienne Fermie30 Sep 2019, 5:40 pmJAN VERTONGHEN has had his say on Tottenham’s hard fought 2-1 win over Southampton yesterday.Spurs were forced to grind out victory with ten men after Serge Aurier was red carded in the first half. And Vertonghen thinks the difficult nature of the win could benefit the team.He told Spurs TV: “Maybe this is what we needed. We also created a couple of nice chances but from the front to the back, everyone fought so hard and it’s a big win for us.“This win means a lot. We deserved it. We started well, had a bit of bad luck but yes, extremely happy with the win.”Spurs were winning when Aurier was sent off, but almost immediately a Hugo Lloris howler gifted Southampton an equaliser – but Vertonghen refused to criticise his team-mate.“We always try to play out from the back, Hugo had that in his mind and didn’t see the first solution. He tried and that’s what we want.“We want to play out from the back and if the goalkeeper makes a mistake it’s nearly always a goal but if you see the saves he made after that… Hugo, mentally he’s so strong and the same for Serge, he’s aggressive and that’s how we want to be. “Today it meant a red card and a goal against us, but the win is for these guys.”Load more entries…last_img read more
